My name is Araceli Corona. I was born in the State of Michoacan, Mexico. My parents are Cenovio and Micaela. They were farmers who worked in the field. Life was very hard because there was too much poverty, and my parents thought that in their culture, education is not necessary for the poor. I went to school up to the sixth grade. I immigrated to the United States when I was 17 years old. I came because in my country of origin there was too much poverty. Since I immigrated, my children obtain an education and they don’t lack anything.

 

   

My name is Maria Lemus. I was born in Puruandiro, Michoacan. My parents are Antonia and Sacramento Lemus. I have six siblings, two brothers and four sisters. I am the youngest in the family. When I lived in Mexico, I went up to nineth grade, in Huatajo, that is the community where I come from. Now I am studying in high school, and I only have been living six months in this country. My biggest priority is to study and to get ahead. I live with my sister, but all my family lives in this country, but they live in different states.

 

   

My name is Verónica L. Escobar. I am married and have three children. I was born in the State of Baja California, Mexico, but I was raised in the State of Michoacan. We are a family of nine children. I went to school in the State of Michoacan up to the fourth grade. I immigrated to the United Statates in 1993, and lived in Calexico, California. Then, I arrived to Lindsay in 1997, and since then, I have lived and worked in this place. First I worked in factories, and then I took classes to become a child care provider. At the same time that I work, I take care of my own children and of my home. Here, in the United States I found a better future for my family. I want, in the near future, to be better prepared.

 

   

My name is Maria Ibarra Lemus, and I was born in Mexico. My parents are Jesus Ibarra and Conita Lemus. My family consists of four, three daughters, and one son. In Mexico I went to school up to the fourth grade, and I arrived to the United States in 1983.

 

   

My name is Virginia Ibarra, and I was born in Mexico. My parents are Victor and Teresa Lemus. My family is united. I went to school in Mexico up to primary school. I came from Mexico in 1992. I came because I wanted to live in the United States. My family, for me, is wonderful.

 

   

My name is Maria T. Baca. I was born in Michoacan, in a little, but beautiful ranch. There I lived with my parents; five sisters, and four brothers. My parents are Domingo Garcia and Virginia Meza. My family is formed by my husband and me. We have five children, three girls and two boys. I went to school in Huatajo, Michoacan, and I studied up to the sixth grade. We arrived to the United States in August 2004. We came so our children could study and could improve themselves, because there are more opportunities to work and study here. That is the reason why we are here.

 

   

My name is Maria C. Martinez. I was born in Mexico, in a ranch named Huatajo. I went to the same school as my siblings did. My parents’ names are Fidel and Eulalia. We are a very humble family. One day I got married and we decided to come to the United States. We arrived in 1985. My first child was born in July 1986, the second child was born in December 1988, and my third child was born in 1992. We have always worked in the field in order to support our children, and thanks to God, they are already grown up. Thanks to God, and with much effort, we have been able to buy our own house.

 

   

My name is Florencia Ceballos. I was born in Mexico, and I am from Huatajo, Michoacan. My parents are Juan Ceballos and Guadalupe Espinoza. My family is very large: I have five sisters and six brothers. I went to school in Mexico up to the third grade. I came here in 1984. We came, my husband and me, in order to give our children a better education. My family is small; we are a total of five. I have three children, they are already grown up. All of them are studying.

 

   

My name is Lety Lopez. I was born in the City of Mexico, and my parents were born in a ranch called Las Tortugas. My parents were very happy. They went to school, I think, up to the second grade. They only learned how to write. I arrived to the United States in September, and I am here because life over there is very poor and there is no future. I have a family, thanks to God, very pretty. My children, the older one of them already finished high school, and the other girl has one more year to go. I have a girl who goes to fifth grade.

 

   

My name is Lucina Baca. I was never happy with my name because is very ugly. I was born in a small ranch where there was a lot of poverty, but I lived there very happily with my family. I do not count with my mother any more, but she was a good mother. My father is still alive, and he is also a good father. My family is very large, three men and seven women, and we all get along well. We are very united. I went to school in the same small ranch where I was born, and I only went up to the fifth grade. I came to the United States in July 1990, and I came because over there is no work, and the situation is critical. There is a lot of poverty. My family now is very small, but very pretty.

 

   

My name is Clauri Orozco Moreno. I was born in a ranch called Huatajo, municipality of Puruandiro, Michoacan. My parents are farmers, and are originally from Huatajo. My family is very united and very happy when we are all together. I went to school in Mexico, and I finished up to the fourth grade. I came to the United States in 2001 because I want to have a better future. I live with my grandparents and with my aunt and my sister. We are very happy.

 

   

My name is María Elba Borunda. I was born in Agua Caliente, a ranch where there are 200 houses, and everybody knows each other. This ranch is in Jalisco, Mexico. My parents’ names are Abelina Flores and Miguel Borunda. My family is very large, since on my mother’ side I have five siblings, and on my father’s side I have five brothers. I grew up with my mother, and went to a school located in the same ranch. I only went up to the third grade because my mother could not buy the school supplies for me. When I became fifteen, I decided to come, with my sister, to the United States, and then I returned to Mexico, but I returned to the United States once more when I was eighteen. I came in order to help my mother build her house. But, one day, I got married, and I stayed here.

 

   

My name is Carmen Diaz. I was born in Mexico, in the State of Jalisco. My parents are Mr. Casimiro Morales and Transito Lomeli. I have eight siblings. I communicate very well with my siblings, especially with my younger sister, with whom I went to school until we finished 9th grade in Mexico. The reason why I came to the United States was an invitation my married sister made me to bring her children. I planned to return promptly, but then, I started to work and I liked to earn dollars, and I stayed. Also, after I learned a little bit more, I saw that in this country one has the opportunity to progress and that is the reason why I am here, to take advantage of this opportunity, and I would love to be able to obtain my diploma.

 

   

My name is Andrea, and I am originally from Mexico. I was born in a town called Las Tortugas, in the State of Michoacan. My father is named Jesus, and my mother is named Celia. For me, they were good parents; I believed they did everything in their power to educate us. I was able to finish primary school in the same town where I was born. Because there was no secondary school in my town, and my parents did not have the necessary resources to send me to study in another town, I could not keep studying. When I became 17, I got married, and in June of 1993, my husband and I decided to come to the United States with the purpose of working in order to give a better life to our children. Now I have three children, my older child is 17 and he does not go to school. He prefers to work with us in the field. My other children are studying, and I hope they continue studying, since my husband and I would do everything possible to give them the best.

 

   

My name is Estela Andrade. I was born in Mexico in the State of Michoacan. My parents also were born in Mexico; my father in Michocan, and my mother in Guanajuato. My family is a numerous family. We are a total of eleven children, seven women and four men. Now, almost all my siblings are in the United States, but my parents are still living in Mexico. I studied in Michoacan, in my community school. I could only study up to the 7th grade, and I wanted to study more, but it was impossible. Later, I got married, and I came with my husband over here. When I arrived here, I wanted to keep studying, but I could not study and work. Now I have living here nineteen years, and I still want to study to be able to help my children, who are three: the oldest of them is 18 and he is going to graduate this year. I have another child who is 13 and now is in the 7th grade, and I also have a girl who is in kinder.

 

   

My name is Sara Lemus. I was born in Las Tortugas, Michoacan. This is a ranch of some 3000 inhabitants. My father is a farmer dedicated to planting corn. My mother is a farmer dedicated to being a housewife. My family consists of seven siblings, five women, and two men. I went to school in the same place where I was born. I would start the year, but I would never finish, this is the reason why I never got anywhere. At the age of fifteen I got married. Two months later I came with my husband to the United States. This was in 1983. I came looking for a better future. Now, thanks to God, I have six children, five women and one man. I have a house, a car, and a job. I have a nice family.

 

   

My name is Esther Soto. I was born in Michoacan, Mexico. The names of my parents are Ramon Esquivel and Juana Ortiz. They were very strict with us. We are five in the family, four sisters and one brother. I studied up to the sixth grade; my parents did not let me keep on studying. Later, in 1968, my father immigrated to the United States in order to have a better life. Four years after being a resident, I met my husband. My husband and I live in the United States, we had five children, and they all are married now. With the help of my parents and all my family, we have had a better future.

 

   

My name is Maria Jesús Moreno. I was born in a ranch named Huatajo, municipality of Puruandiro, Michoacan. My parents are farmers born in Huatajo. I went to school right there, in my ranch named Huatajo, and I studied up to the sixth grade, which is the end of primary school. I came to the United States in the year 2003, and I am here because I wanted to give my children a better future. My family, for me, is small, but it is wonderful.

 

   

My name is Biridiana Orozco Moreno. I was born in Puruandiro, Michocan, close to the town where my parents educated me, and where I grew up together with my siblings. My parents are Jesus Orozco and Juana Moreno, from Michoacan. My family is a little large, and consists of ten people, including my parents and myself. I went to school in Mexico and finished up to the third grade through Telesecundaria. I came to the United States in the middle of 2003 because I want to have a better future for myself, my parents, and my siblings. My family from Mexico is very important for me, and my family here is also important because I live with my mother’s parents.

 

   

My name is Roberto Baca. I was born in Huatajo, municipality of Puruandiro, Michoacan, Mexico. My father’s name is Fidencio Baca, and my mother is Maria Elena Sanchez. I studied in Huatajo up to the second grade. I came to the United States because we were a large family and our economic level was very low, and I wanted to improve our living standard for myself, and for my family.

 

   

My name is Ana Irma Salazar. I was born in El Salvador, in a small town name Las Cañas, closed to Nueva Concepción, in the Department of Chalatenango. My father’s name is Simon Galdamez, and my mother’s name is albertina de Galdamez. I have seven siblings; Esther, Isai, Domy, Carmen, Blanca, Gilda, and Rinita. My first school is named Eben-Ezer in Potrero Sula, in Chalatenando. There, I studied the only seven years I have of schooling. I came to the United States in 1993, on July 1st. The reason why I came is because my husband was sick over here, and he needed me. I really thought to stay here only for a year, but I stayed until now. My four children came in 1997, the same year that my husband died. Thanks to God, my children are all grown up and are studying in the university. I believe I have several reasons to be satisfied for being here, and now I believe is time for me. I hope to study and to be able to be somebody and as a result my children could be proud of me.

 

   

My name is Adriana Davila. I was born in a small island called Mexcaltitan, Nayarit, which is located at four hours from Tepic, Nayarit. My parents, unfortunately, are not with us anymore. They died many years ago, but my father’s name was Fortino Hernandez, and my mother’s name was Belen Medina. I did not get to know them very well, did not get to enjoy them much; however, it was God’s will. We were six siblings, two women, and four men. One of my brothers died, and he was my favorite brother. He and I got along very well. Twenty years ago I came to the United States looking for a better future. Thanks to God, that is the way it was, I have a good husband and two small children. One is nine years old, and the other is four. I am very happy, because although my family is small, at last, I have something that is mine. In my native town, I went to school to primary and secondary school. I wanted to study to become a nurse, but the economic situation did not allow me to do it. Therefore, I decided to study to become a secretary since it allowed me to work in the mornings and to study in the afternoons, and that was much better. I graduated as a secretary and could work in order to help my younger siblings, but because my salary was not sufficient, I decided to look for a better future. That is the reason why I came to the United States, and now I am here. Thanks to God and to my husband, I am now an American citizen, and now I want to obtain my GED in order to be able to have a better job.

 

   

My name is Jose Heriberto Escobar, and my birth place was in the city of Victoria, in the Department of Cabañas, El Salvador. My parents are also from the same place. My family consisted of four siblings and also my uncles and aunts, and my grandmother. The place were I went to school was at the same place where I was born, and I finished up to the 9th grade. I decided to come to the United States in 1994, and I decided to come due to the lack of work sources in my country. My family consists of my three children and my wife. Two daughters and one son, and now we have a new member in the family, the son of my oldest daughter. Thanks to God we live very well. This is part of my life, and once again, my name is Jose H. Escobar.

 

   

My name is Romelia M. Espinoza. I was born in Michoacan, Mexico. My parents are Nicanor and Marielena. My family is my husband and my five children. I did not go to school because I could not attend. I had to work to help my parents. I came to the United States after being married for two years. I came here in 1991. Since then I dedicated myself to work in the fields and to take care of my children. The reason why I came here was because I wanted a better future for my family. I crossed the border through the hills, carrying my two year old son in my arms, and being four months pregnant. However, my desire is to get ahead.

 

   

My name is Gloria Lemus. I was born in Las Tortugas, Michoacan, a little town where I grew up with my family, my mother and my five siblings. My father died when I was five years old, and my mother took care of us, by herself. Thanks to God, we were able to get ahead, we studied a little bit, only primary school, in the same town, in Las Tortugas, and when I got married, I came to the United States in 1992. I brought my two children with me, they were small, they were born in Mexico, and later, my girl was born here, and she is six years old now. All my family is very good to me. Now, I am a child care provider, I take care of my children, and I help other families to take care of their children.

 

   

My name is Fabiola Rangel Ibarra. My parents’ names are Micaela and Senovio. They are two elderly persons, and I love them very much. My family is numerous; I have nine sisters and one brother. All of us are very united, and I am very proud of them, I love my family very much. I went to school only up to the sixth grade; it was a very humble school, very different to the schools in this country. But I remember a beautiful childhood, in spite of all the scarcity. A year and a half ago I came to this country. It was because I was alone, since my husband works and is a resident of many years of this country.

 

   

My name is Virginia Rangel. I was born in Mexico. My parents are Mr. Pedro Orozco and Mrs. Ursula Mora. In my family we are four women and one man, my mother and my father. I went to school in Michoacan, Mexico, and I attended school up to the 6th grade. I came to the United States in 1990, and I came searching for work for myself and my husband. Currently, I live with my husband and my three children, one boy and two girls. My family is good, very nice, and happy.

 

   

My name is Ernesto Baca. I was born in Mexico in a humble, but happy family of farmers, where one has to struggle everyday in order to survive. Although the economic aspect was difficult, the happiness was great, because one could breathe a lot of peace and tranquility. My parents were very special persons, hard working and honest, who taught me the values of life; to respect other people, and to struggle for the goals I want to reach. My family is a very special family, made of hard working, honest, and humble people. My brothers and sisters are persons that I admire and respect very much because they are honest, and have the courage to get ahead. I went to school in Mexico, in the place where I was born. I attended primary school, up to the sixth grade. I came to the United Stated when I was sixteen years old, in 1986.

 

   

My name is Benito Ceballos. I was born in Mexico, in Michoacan. My parents are from Mexico. My family is from Michoacan. Almost all of my family is here; they all went to school in Mexico, up to the fifth or sixth grade. I came to the United States in 1983, and my siblings, some before, and some after me. I formed my family in 1989, and all my children are born here in the United States.

 

   

My name is Eloisa Lemus. I was born in Mexico in a small ranch. I was there until I was twelve years old. Later, I went to the capital city to work in order to help my parents because we were very poor. Two years later I returned, I got married and had two children; one when I was 16, and the other when I was 18 years old. Now my children have graduated from the university. My parents live with me. I already have grandchildren and I take care of children.
