Distance Education, Literacy and GED Program
Our partnership with the Consulate of Mexico will allow us to offer supplemental programs to the Hispanic community of Lindsay and surrounding communities, including parents whose children are enrolled in the Adelante a la Universidad
program, in three areas:
- Educación a Distancia, which offers Mexican nationals the opportunity to start, continue, and finish elementary, secondary, and high school education in Spanish, and upon graduation receive a diploma from the Mexican government. The Mexican Consulate offers training, books, and technical support to organization like ours to encourage their conationals to continue with their education. Our organization provides the space and the teachers for adults interested in improving themselves through education.
- Literacy Classes. The Mexican Consulate provides the literacy materials and training to teach how to read and write in Spanish. The Centro will provide the space and teachers.
- GED Classes. With the help of the local adult school, we will offer specific training in Spanish, designed to prepare and sharpen the skills of students interested in taking and passing the GED exam.
The Centro “La Familia” believes these three programs align very well with its mission. By being able to offer the opportunity to obtain a school diploma accredited in Mexico, to Mexican nationals, literacy classes to adults, and preparation classes to pass the GED, the center aims to involve some of the parents registered in the Adelante a la Universidad
program, and through this involvement motivate them to be good role models to their children, which in turn, will bring success to themselves, their families, and the community.
