Other approaches to enhancing and sustaining the students’ academic achievement and measuring results in addition to making students accountable to the program will include:

FOR THE STUDENT:

  • Weekly monitoring of students’ grades and citizenship
  • Weekly attendance to three tutoring sessions
  • Monthly workshops on self-motivation
  • Regular workshops on study skills and organization
  • Regular workshops on how to improve reading and writing skills
  • Monthly workshops on the following curriculum:
    • Choosing college bound classes, honor and AP courses
    • How to schedule your classes
    • How to choose a career
    • How to manage school time and work time
    • How to apply for financial aid, and different types of financial aid
    • How to choose the right university
    • How to deal with counselors and school personnel
    • Alternatives to traditional high school education
    • Understanding your GPA
    • How to take standardized tests, including the SAT and ACT
    • University requirements
    • Field trips to university campuses
FOR THE PARENTS:
  • Monthly attendance of the following workshops:
    • Helping your child choose college bound classes, honor and AP courses
    • Helping your child schedule his classes
    • Helping your child choose a career
    • Helping your child manage school time and work time
    • What the family need to apply for financial aid, types of financial aid and scholarships available
    • Helping your child choose the right university
    • How to deal with counselors and school personnel
    • Alternatives to traditional high school education
    • Understanding your child’s GPA
    • Understanding standardized tests, including the SAT and ACT
    • University requirements
    • Field trips to university campuses
    • Parenting skills
    • Quarterly “Back to School Workshops” (open to the general public)
    • Quarterly “Financial Aid Workshops” (open to the general public)
Tutoring, assessment, and counseling sessions, as well as workshops offered would take place during the evening, on workdays, and on Saturdays in order to accommodate parents who work fulltime.
